Great Stone Viaduct Winter Lecture Series

Since 2012, the library has partnered with the Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society on a Winter Lecture Series. These programs, featuring presentations of local historical and community topics, are held on Wednesday nights at 6 pm in the Community Room on the lower level of the Library throughout the months of February and March. All Winter Lecture Series programs are free for the public to attend.

  • Feb. 14: “Belmont Co. Railroads 2023” presented by local author and attorney Daniel L. Frizzi, Jr.

  • Feb. 21: “Ohio's Coin Company: Osbourne Coinage” presented by Patrick Hipple, Account Executive at Osborne Coinage

  • Feb. 28: “Braddock's Defeat” presented by Shawn MacIntyre, Public Engagement & Operations Manager at Braddock's Battlefield History Center


  • Mar. 6: “Cabooses and B&O Potpourri presented by B&O caboose historian, train photographer, and author, Dwight Jones


  • Mar. 13: “Sports Legends in the Ohio Valley” presented by Gordie Longshaw


  • Mar. 20: “Eight Women of Note: A Review of Wheeling History Through the Eyes of Eight Influential Women” with historic portrayals presented by Judi Hendrickson & Jeanne Finstein


  • Mar. 27: “A River Runs Through It - Early Exploration” presented by Monroe County Treasurer, historian, and local author, Taylor Abbott
