PART-TIME TEMPORARY/SEASONAL CLERK POSITION:

The Bellaire Public Library is seeking a part-time temporary/seasonal clerk to work October-January, 20-28 hours per week. Must be able to work evenings from 4-7 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. 

REPORTS TO: Circulation Desk Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
Some college is preferred. Must be detailed oriented. Must have experience with computers and other digital devices, (i.e. smart phone, tablet, e-reader, printers, etc.) Must possess good communication skills and work well with public and co-workers, be a team player. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push library carts. All qualified applicants will be subject to an organizational text based on library classification systems for shelving (Alphabetization and Dewey Decimal) and a background check prior to hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs circulation desk duties including, but not limited to:

  • Assisting patrons in locating books and other library materials
  • Giving directions
  • Answering telephone
  • Answering and logging reference questions
  • Assisting patrons with database searches, the online catalog, and website
  • Checking in, checking out, and placing holds on materials
  • Notifying patrons when materials are ready for pick-up
  • Assisting patrons with copying, faxing, and using library equipment including public computers
  • Collecting fines (which includes making being able to make change)
  • Creating or replacing library cards for patrons
  • Shelving, shifting, and weeding books and library materials
  • Assisting with the processing of materials
  • Clerks are also responsible for processing U.S. mail and cargo materials coming in and going out
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
